When should my organization start thinking about moving to Oracle HCM Cloud?

Oracle HCM Cloud should be part of the decision-making process based on your organization's timeline for upgrading and adding more functionality (such as with Compensation Programs and Performance Management) and your organization's need for advanced technology, open standards, and an enhanced user interface. You can move your talent strategy to Oracle Talent Management Cloud while keeping your existing HR platform for core functions. See Coexistence FAQ.

What new features does Oracle HCM Cloud offer that I don't already have in my current PeopleSoft or Oracle E-Business Suite installation?
There are many ways that Oracle HCM Cloud can deliver additional value to an existing HCM installation, for example:

-  Oracle HCM Cloud includes significant functionality enhancements that help you manage HR better. There are several new modules such as Talent Review and Succession Management, Workforce Predictions, and Workforce Lifecycle Manager.

-  Some enhancements include: embedded business intelligence including predictive analytics, embedded collaboration capabilities, and data visualization. Oracle HCM Cloud also has a new user experience that is already receiving excellent reviews from customers including our Oracle Tap application for mobile devices.

-  Oracle HCM Cloud is completely configurable, so customers with PeopleSoft HCM solutions will realize tremendous benefits at the business process and end-user levels. Configurations in Oracle HCM Cloud are persistent, so you are not locked into a specific version of the application. You can easily upgrade to future releases of Oracle HCM Cloud without reworking your configurations.
Does Oracle HCM Cloud offer a simple intuitive interface for users?

Yes. We offer a simplified user experience across our Oracle HCM Cloud solutions as well as the Oracle Tap application for tablets and smartphones. The simplified user experience or the Tap application encompass everything from recruiting, skills assessment, performance reviews, onboarding to organizational charting with the same secure role-based access controls.

How does Prediction Analysis work in Oracle HCM Cloud?

Using Oracle Data Mining, Oracle HCM Cloud delivers a set of indicators that are run through an advanced algorithm. This benchmarks a customer's historical data against weighted factors and performs a prediction analysis. As more transactional data is added, the algorithm adapts automatically to refine its predictions. Users can drill into the analysis to determine which indicators have been triggered so that they can take corrective action.  A good example of Predictive Analytics  is employee attrition using a 9-box view of your workforce and understanding the attributing factors of each employee at risk of leaving your organization.

What options does Oracle Global Human Resources Cloud provide to integrate data into and out of the platform?

The Oracle Global Human Resources Cloud platform provides a full REST-based API that can be used by the customer to integrate data between the Oracle Global Human Resources Cloud and any third-party system. Oracle Global Human Resources Cloud reporting can also be used to export data in a flat-file format.

Java
What is Oracle Java Cloud Service?

Oracle Java Cloud Service provides an enterprise grade platform to develop and deploy business applications in the cloud. What differentiates Oracle Java Cloud Service from other Platform as a Service (PaaS) solutions?

Oracle Java Cloud Service is designed to provide the following unmatched PaaS benefits:

  • Allows for the portability of applications between the cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Eliminates the complexity of deploying applications by leveraging the Oracle Fusion Middleware interoperability with common services such as database, identity management, and web services security.
  • Provides reliability, availability, scalability, and performance by leveraging Oracle WebLogic Server, Oracle Exalogic, Oracle Database, and Oracle Exadata for its underlying infrastructure.
What is the best way of getting started with Oracle Java Cloud Service?

Oracle Java Cloud Service is easy to use and understand. To get started, read the Using Oracle Java Cloud Service document.

What development tools must I use to write applications for Oracle Java Cloud Service?

You do not need any specific tool or SDK to develop applications for Oracle Java Cloud Service. However, Oracle has developed the following optional productivity tools to help simplify implementation and deployment of applications to Oracle Java Cloud Service:

  • Oracle Java Cloud Service Software Development Kit (SDK): Contains a command-line interface, Apache Ant tasks, and Maven plugins for interaction with Oracle Java Cloud Service.
  • Oracle Java Cloud Service productivity tools: Contained within the Oracle JDeveloper, Oracle Enterprise Platform for Eclipse, and NetBeans IDEs. These tools support features such as the direct deployment of enterprise applications to Oracle Java Cloud Service instances and the inspection of the service instance logs directly from the IDE.
Can I deploy multiple application deployment archives within the same Oracle Java Cloud Service instance?

Yes. You can deploy multiple Java EE archives to the same Oracle Java Cloud Service instance. The number of different Java EE archives that you can deploy to a particular Oracle Java Cloud Service instance depends on the instance's available file storage, Java VM heap space, and the deployment archive's need for these resources.

Can I access the configuration of the underlying application server, JVM, and/or operating system for my Oracle Java Cloud Service instances?

Oracle Java Cloud Service simplifies the effort needed to deliver enterprise Java applications by encapsulating the complexity of the infrastructure layer and automating its maintenance. As such, Oracle Java Cloud Service does not expose any of the underlying execution environment's operating system, middleware, and JVM configurations to its users. From a monitoring point of view, selected application-centric metrics are exposed through the Oracle Java Cloud Service monitoring interfaces. For more information, see the Using Oracle Java Cloud Service document.

How do I manage the users of applications deployed to an Oracle Java Cloud Service instance?

Each Oracle Java Cloud Service instance is automatically configured with an identity store associated with its identity domain. You can share the same identity store among multiple Oracle Java Cloud Service instances by placing them in the same identity domain. The content of the identity store, that is, the individual users and their roles that are associated with an Oracle Java Cloud Service instance, is managed through the Oracle Cloud identity management console. For more information about using this console, see the Using Oracle Java Cloud Service document.

How do I configure a database with my Oracle Java Cloud Service instances?

Applications deployed to the Oracle Java Cloud Service must use Oracle Database Cloud Service as their underlying database. To enable use of an Oracle Database Cloud Service instance from an Oracle Java Cloud Service instance, the two must be associated. Association leads to the creation of a JDBC data source within Oracle Java Cloud Service that can then be used by applications that are deployed to it. An Oracle Database Cloud Service instance that is associated with an Oracle Java Cloud Service instance can then be managed through the Oracle Database Cloud Service interfaces including the Oracle Application Express SQL Workshop tool. For more information about the interaction of Oracle Java Cloud Service with Oracle Database Cloud Service, see the Using Oracle Java Cloud Service document.

How can I manage and monitor my Oracle Java Cloud Service instances?

Oracle Java Cloud Service can be managed and monitored through the Oracle Java Cloud Service console (a web-based interface), and a command-line interface. The command-line interface can be found within the Oracle Java Cloud Service SDK. For more information about these interfaces, see the Using Oracle Java Cloud Service document.

How does Oracle Social Network integrate with applications and business processes?

Oracle Social Network is an open, extensible, social platform service that enables enterprises to build additional integrations with enterprise applications and business processes. All data from enterprise applications and business processes can be social objects. In Oracle Social Network, social objects contain records from a business application or business process—generically referred to as system-of-record—that are mapped into Oracle Social Network. As a result, social objects are explicitly coupled with conversations, where the object can be discussed in context, and a record of that discussion retained.

For example, a product manager might have access only to an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system for budgets or only an HCM system for personnel management. However, by sharing selected social objects from a Oracle Sales and Marketing Cloud system within the context of an Oracle Social Network conversation, the product manager can quickly address customer concerns raised during the sales process. This enables individuals and teams to make smarter decisions by providing contextual data from across the various systems in one place. By integrating multiple applications and processes, individuals and teams can solve complex cross-organizational business problems more effectively through Oracle Social Network.

Storage
What is Oracle Storage Cloud Service?

It is an object storage solution that enables businesses to securely and reliably store files and unstructured data in the cloud. Data can be stored or retrieved, at any time, from any device connected to the Internet.

How can I use Oracle Storage Cloud Service?

Data can be stored and retrieved to and from the Oracle Storage Cloud Service through both a RESTful Web Service and a Java library.

How does Oracle Storage Cloud Service protect my data?

As soon as data is stored in the Oracle Storage Cloud Service it is automatically replicated 3 times to separate machines within the same data center. This automatic mirroring prevents data loss caused by hardware failures.

How can I control access to my data on Oracle Storage Cloud Service?

Access to data is based on user roles. Account Administrators can create custom user roles in their Identity Domain and those roles can be assigned read-only or read/write privileges to Containers. Service Administrators can also set Containers to be publicly readable if desired.

How can I encrypt my data on Oracle Storage Cloud Service?

Users may encrypt their data before storing it as an Object on the Oracle Storage Cloud Service by using the Java library. Object data can be encrypted with a 2048 bit RSA KeyPair provided and managed by the customer.

How much data can I store in Oracle Storage Cloud Service?

When purchasing the Oracle Storage Cloud Service the buyer must specify how much storage capacity to buy. Users of the  Service Instance cannot store more data than originally purchased. At any time the buyer can increase a Service Instance's storage capacity.

How large can my objects be in Oracle Storage Cloud Service?

Files of any size can be uploaded to the Oracle Storage Cloud Service. A single Object in the Oracle Storage Cloud Service can be as large as 5GB. To store files larger than 5GB, simply segment the original file into sizes of 5GB or less and upload the segments following a defined naming convention. Then create a new Manifest Object to represent all of the pieces of the original file. The resulting file can then be downloaded as a single file and is identical to the original file.

Can I automatically delete my Objects at a scheduled time?

Yes. Individual Objects can be scheduled for deletion. See the documentation for more details.

How does Prediction Analysis work in Oracle Talent Management Cloud?
Using Oracle Data Mining, Oracle HCM Cloud delivers a set of indicators that are run through an advanced algorithm. This benchmarks a customer's historical data against weighted factors and performs a prediction analysis. As more transactional data is added, the algorithm adapts automatically to refine its predictions. Users can drill into the analysis to determine which indicators have been triggered so that they can take corrective action. A good example of Predictive Analytics  is employee attrition using a 9-box view of your workforce and understanding the attributing factors of each employee at risk of leaving your organization.
